Meditation & Chan Philisophy

Meditation & Chan Philosophy is important for any student of Traditional Shaolin Culture. It is the heart of the practice. As the saying goes;

"If you want your Wugong to soar like the eagle, you must practice Qigong. If you want your Qigong to soar like the eagle, you must practice seated meditation".

Every Shaolin art came from seated meditation. It is in seated meditation where one's mind-chatter quiets and one is able to concentrate on their training, reaching expert levels. Seated meditation in Shaolin tradition is guided by Chan Philosophy.

In this part of the program, students are taught the posture and technique of seated meditation (Chin.: zuòchán 坐禅) from the Shaolin Chan tradition. It is also in this program that students will learn about Shaolin Chan Philosophy and History, with Dharma-talks on various topics.

These Shaolin Meditation and Chan Philosophy classes are always open to the public and free of charge. The meeting time is Fridays from 7-8pm. Everyone is welcome.
